CD Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Certificate of Deposit?
A Certificate of Deposit, or CD, is a savings account designed for money you can set aside for a specific amount of time. You deposit your money for an agreed-upon term and earn interest until the CD reaches its maturity date.
How do CD rates and earnings work?
When you open a CD, your money earns dividends based on the rate associated with that CD and term. In most cases, the rate is fixed for the entire term, so you know what your money will earn for the duration of the CD.
What happens at the end of my CD term?
When your CD reaches its maturity date, you'll have the opportunity to withdraw your money, move it to another account, or renew it into a new CD. We'll provide information about your options as your maturity date approaches.
Can I take money out before my CD matures?/strong>
Yes, but CDs are designed for money you can leave on deposit through the end of the term. Withdrawing funds early may result in an early withdrawal penalty. View our deposit rates and disclosures for specific terms and penalties before opening your CD.
Which CD term is right for me?
Think about when you may need access to the money. A shorter-term CD gives you access sooner, while a longer term may offer a different rate. If you're not sure which option fits your plans, our team can help you compare available terms.
